When Dave and I weren't disagreeing, he was making me laugh.
He was quick witted and loved to poke fun at me....These are two of my favourite memories in fact it was just a few days ago I was telling the story
We were driving up the 400 and I suggested to him that you could tell about people by their cars..
Without batting an eyelid he turned to me and said "Yeah Liz...Just like yours...Big and old and don't sound too good either!"...lol
One of my other favourites was a 'game' at the Toby Jug.....we were all in a circle and had to desribe what we would do as we made our way round the fantasy 'forest'.
Everyone was asked what they would do when they arrived at a stream...For my turn I said I'd get in a dinghy and float downstream....
They went around until it was his turn.....His answer?
"I'd get in a speedboat and head upstream...I've seen Liz in a swimming cossie!"
I've already missed that as I haven't seen him in the last few years.
His great 'Neil Diamond' sounding voice always great to listen to at karaoke and I will always remember the duets we did. I'd always grab him to do 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers' ...He always tolerated my request despite his daughter, Lisa, sounding so perfect together.
Two great voices...No question on that!
We would listen for hours while he strummed away on his guitar, always sounding great with his Gordon Lightfoot songs.
He was staying with us for a while and I loved arriving home to a glass of vodka and a barbecue at the ready....We would talk for hours.
We didn't always see eye to eye and we would undoubtedly get into a deep conversation that never really did lead anywhere...but I enjoyed it...always.
He was always there to lend a hand if something needed fixing...or to make one of his speciality dishes.
I loved his potato salad....amazing!
I was looking forward to the time I could go and visit him again...Sadly that time never came.
He was so proud of his children....Lisa surpassed the ability of 'just' singing....She is outstanding and I hope her and Daren can eventually achieve what they have always wanted.
Dave may not be around to see it but he will be 'watching' her achieve her dreams and will be up there as proud as any father could be...She sings like the angels he spends his time with now....
I'm going to miss him....He was a good friend that I will never forget...Ever....
Rest in Peace Dave....
Until we meet again....
